Corona (COVID-19) Relief Effort

Coronavirus-alert.jpg

The worldwide COVID-19 crisis has affected India perhaps as much as any nation. The 2020 lock-down in India left hundreds of millions of Indians who were already very poor without any work or financial support, leading to a nationwide humanitarian crisis of hunger and often homelessness. The latest lock-downs during the 2021 crisis have again left multitudes without work and with little or no food. Unlike many Westerners, people in Indian villages rarely have refrigeration or dried/canned goods stored up, or money saved up to by food.  Lock-downs immediately cause a hunger crisis. While the Indian government has tried to provide some relief, they simply cannot reach the hundreds of millions of people that are starving.  Countless died due to starvation or were left in a state of malnutrition due to the 2020 lock-down, and multitudes of lives are again being threatened due to lack of food by the 2021 lock-down.

Rise India has been raising funds to send relief to the poor and hungry families in churches in Karnataka, In addition, Rise India has been providing relief to Devadaasi women and children, who are some of the poorest and hungriest people in India even without a lock-down, and are in even greater need due to the lock-down.  Through the generous contributions of supporters, Rise India is able to provide grocery kits to many families in churches in Karnataka, as well as many Devasdaasi women and children. In addition, Rise India provides grocery kits to families and many widows in a church in Northeast India, as well as many poor, hungry people in villages. We also provide grocery kits to single Mothers with children in the slums of Bangalore, through our partner organization Margdarshak. Each grocery kit costs about $35, and feeds a small to medium-sized family for approximately 3 weeks.

For more information, watch the following two videos, and in which the Devadaasi women first ask for help, and then express their heartfelt gratitude for the help sent them.
