Young India

There are over 600 million people under the age of 24 in India, with well over 300 million under the age of 10. Multitudes of these young people are poor, underfed, uneducated, helpless, and hopeless.. Among the most needy of these are the Dalit (untouchable caste) children. For generations, many Dalits have been despised and discriminated against simply because of who their parents and ancestors are. While the government has made some strides to provide more opportunities for Dalit children, the sad fact is that most Dalit children are extremely poor and mistreated by people in other castes, and only a small percentage really have opportunities for education and training. The most despised and mistreated of the Dalit children are the children of Devadaasi’s (Temple Prostitutes). Sons of Devadaasi’s have few opportunities in life; daughters have even less opportunities, and often become Devadaasi’s themselves when they reach puberty, being forced into unwanted sexual slavery while they are still children, Rise India ministers to poor children, especially these children of Devadaasi’s. Outreach teams hold conferences where they are showered as loved, treated as special, taught about Grace, and shown how to have Hope for the future. Rise India also provides free schooling for children of Devadaasi’s, and is now working on providing a hostel with free room and board for the children that attend its school. Our vision is to expand these outreaches, and our goal is to transform Southern India with mercy and grace, so that the whole Devadaasi system is eradicated.
